Darvin Furniture & Mattress President Will Harris as well as other Darvin employees attend "A Stroll Through Spain" Crisis Center for South Suburbia's annual Gala. The gala was held at the Odyssey Country Club. This year, the Crisis Center for South Suburbia launched the “Not One More Life Lost” campaign with the goal of doubling community education efforts so that no one will ever have to lose a life to domestic violence because they didn’t know where to go for safety and help.

Long-time Chicago DJ and podcaster Joe Soto stopped by the Darvin Furniture & Mattress showroom to ring in the new Year. Joe spent some time talking to customers, shooting photos and talking about R&B and the adult contemporary music he has grown up on. Customers entered in drawings and won furniture prizes, 1940s CDs and music collections and more.

With a 'Back to the 40s' themed sale including a special SpeakEasy Discount, Darvin Furniture & Mattress focused the spotlight on the award-winning Alan Gresik Swing Orchestra. Performing in the Darvin Showroom, the orchestra provided an opportunity for customers to dance and enjoy sounds of a time gone by with ageless orchestral swing music helping to welcome in the New Year.

Darvin kicked off the 2023 Black Friday with a special 93.9 LITE FM live broadcast with Robin Rock, Will Harris - Darvin President, and Edison the Reindeer. Customers celebrated the launch of the holiday season with holiday music and lots of prizes, from Bulls game tickets, Fandango tickets, Six Flags tickets and more.

The Darvin customers were invited to enjoy a little Fall Culinary Treat when Darvin Furniture & Mattress President Will Harris shared some of his family's special recipe for Pumpkin Soup. A generational recipe, the soup was made available in the store for customers to stop by and enjoy on a cold October weekday. Will Harris said it was nice to share his family's special recipe with his Darvin family – and family of customers.

The Fred Show from 103.5 KissFM stopped by the Darvin Furniture & Mattress showroom and treated Darvin customers to a live trivia contest. Throughout the day, The Fred Show took time to pose for photos with customers, provide the  popular Throwback Throwdown trivia, and award winners with the chance to win tickets to the annual Jingle Ball event!

Darvin Furniture got customers excited about the upcoming Trans-Siberian Orchestra Event. Darvin Furniture & Mattress President Will Harris helped kick things off with a special appearance by 94.7 WLS-FM DJ Tim Virgin and his crew. Customers enjoyed eighties trivia, games, and prizes such as Six Flags Tickets, Haunted House Tickets and the Ultimate grand prize: 4 tickets to TSO concert, Dinner and limo ride to and from concert.

Darvin Furniture & Mattress was excited to be the door sponsor for the annual Brats, Bourbon & Brews festival at Joliet's Jacob Henry Mansion. The event showcased top-tier local chefs preparing their best bourbon and craft brew-inspired sausages for a sold-out day featuring live music bourbon tastings, and prizes for attendees. This year’s event benefited the VIP Service Dog Foundation. The Foundation provides trained service dogs for veterans and children with special needs.

Top 100 retailer Darvin Furniture, of Orland Park, Ill., has been approved for membership by the Furniture First board of directors.

Customers celebrated the launch of the July 4th holiday weekend with fun outdoor games and prizes, including local concert tickets, Chicago Cubs tickets, and Six Flags passes. One Grand Prize winner received an Ultimate Chicago Summer Weekend with a 2-night stay at the Westin Hotel, Spa Treatment and/or Michigan Avenue spending spree, and a dinner certificate.

This year’s campaign raised $1.7 million to advance research and treatment of cancer, diabetes, and other life-threatening diseases. Today, Darvin Furniture is 100 percent employee owned. More than 200 Darvin employees participated in the event and more than 500 customers contributed to the City of Hope fundraiser leading up to the Awards Dinner.

No one had more fun than the Darvin team while attending the Passport to Adventure England, A Royal Ball, supporting victims of domestic violence and the Crisis Center for South Suburbia.

With more than 100 years of experience under its belt, Darvin Furniture & Mattress, Chicagoland's largest furniture and mattress store, has learned to carefully pick whom it chooses to call a partner. For more than 20 years, Darvin Furniture has been a constant supporter of City of Hope, one of the nation's largest cancer research and treatment organizations, and this year they will elevate their efforts with local promotions and events throughout the year.

Every year Darvin Furniture & Mattress takes great pride in giving back to the customers that have made it possible for Chicagoland's largest furniture & mattress store to be heading into its 103rd year in business. The annual Darvin Furniture Giveaway started allowing visitors to the Orland Park showroom to register in October for the year-end drawing. The result was more than 1,000 entrants collected and dozens of winning names drawn.

The  International Home Furnishings Industry group and its philanthropic partner City of Hope, one of the largest cancer research and treatment organizations in the United States, have named six industry veterans who will be honored in this year’s signature fundraising events, The Spirit of Life Award Dinner and the West Coast Golf & Tennis Tournament. Among the six industry leaders honored are local third-generation owners of Darvin Furniture & Mattress, Steve and Marty Darvin.

In support and celebration of this honor, Steve and Marty, along with Darvin President Will Harris have decided to give guests who donate to City of Hope a special offer between January 17 and February 27.

Will Harris grew up in his family's furniture business, learning from an early age the value of hard work, serving customers, and the importance of a strong culture among employees. Three years ago, when the opportunity to lead Orland Park-based Darvin Furniture became available, Harris jumped at the chance to take the helm of another multi-generation, family-run business.

Bob McGivney has been the manager of Darvin Furniture & Mattress, Chicagoland's largest furniture and mattress store, for more than 20 years. While he has been involved in countless Darvin events over those two decades, he says he still looks forward to the Furniture Giveaway every year. The winning names will be drawn for a share of the $200,000 in furniture prizes at 6 p.m. Monday, November 28.

Darvin Furniture & Mattress was a sponsor for the Blues Brothers Con Fundraiser Event at the Old Joliet Prison. This event featured Dan Aykroyd and James Belushi reprising their iconic roles of Elwood and Brother Zee in a live performance at the sold-out 16-acre prison complex. Darvin employees and their families enjoyed attending and meeting generations of Darvin customers. As a sponsor of the event, Darvin gave away tickets to the event.

Darvin Furniture & Mattress has promoted Karla Niemiec to Upholstery Buyer for the 102-year-old company. Niemiec, who has been an assistant upholstery buyer for 14 years with the iconic Chicagoland furniture retailer, has already begun the transition process involved with taking over the responsibilities at Darvin Furniture. She will report directly to Darvin Furniture & Mattress President Will Harris.

"I worked directly with Steve Darvin in upholstery. He taught me everything I know," says Niemiec. "It means everything to me to have the faith and trust Will Harris and Steve and Marty Darvin have put in me."

Darvin Furniture & Mattress, Chicagoland's largest furniture and mattress store, has added the Amber Lewis line of area rugs to its huge in-house Rug Gallery. 

Darvin Furniture & Mattress Buyer Jeanie Harrison says there is an entire section of the Darvin Rug Gallery set aside for the new Amber Lewis line of area rugs. The rugs, which Lewis designed and are manufactured by Loloi, are grounded in a signature West Coast aesthetic that Harrison says is extremely popular with young homeowners who are looking for that Cali-cool aesthetic.

Darvin Furniture & Mattress President Will Harris and Director of Sales Vicky Georgiadis have teamed up to create what has been a dynamic duo for Darvin. In a year where year-to-date sales are up 16%, Darvin's outdoor sales this year have been a perfect example of their growing success.

Georgiadis says a big part of her job is making sure the sales team stays informed and educated on the latest innovations and products while tending to what have been generations of customers at Darvin.

Homeowners who may remember last year's struggles finding available outdoor furniture for their homes during the height of COVID do not have to worry this year, according to Darvin Furniture & Mattress Buyer Jeanie Harrison. "Supply chain issues have improved and our stock levels are even better than last year," she says. “At a time when so many people want to spend every possible minute outdoors, there’s a huge selection of items offering more colors, designs, materials, and fabric choices than ever before."

Illinois-based full-line furniture retailer Darvin Furniture recently hosted its first Sweet Dreams Slumber Party event, which aimed to connect customers with the store’s sleep specialists so they could educate shoppers on the importance of a good night’s sleep.

The FAM caught up with Hanny Diab, Darvin Furniture & Mattress VP Merchandising & Business Development, to see how the event went.

With millions of Americans struggling to achieve an acceptable level of quality sleep, Darvin Furniture & Mattress is hosting its very first Sweet Dreams Slumber Party 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, April 1, at its Orland Park, Ill., store, 15400 La Grange Road.

Located in the heart of the Darvin showroom, the redesigned Bassett DesignCenter highlights the infinite design options that Bassett has to offer. The gallery is designed to inspire the newest trends as well as feature the timeless style the iconic furniture brand is known for.

Our President's Day Sale is one of the first big launches of the year. We are in the fashion business on the furniture side, and also the technology business on the mattress side.

Darvin Furniture & Mattress, Chicagoland's largest furniture and mattress store, has promoted Joseph Dzik to Director of DC Warehouse Operations. Darvin recently expanded its Mokena, Ill., Distribution Center and elevated Dzik from his Inventory Manager position to head up the warehouse operations.

"We couldn't be more enthusiastic about Joe stepping up into the Director position at the warehouse," says Darvin Furniture & Mattress President Will Harris.

Every year Darvin Furniture & Mattress gives away hundreds of thousands of dollars in furniture prizes to customers who visit the Orland Park showroom and put in an entry form. On Sunday, January 2, Darvin welcomed the new year by drawing dozens of winners.

Darvin Sales Manager Brent Rowader had the pleasure of contacting many of the winners and notifying them that they were winners in the Darvin Furniture Giveaway. “I really enjoyed letting customers know they had won a prize in our drawing,” says Rowader. “It seems these days people really do need to get good news, and I could hear the excitement in their voices when I told them they were winners.”

Darvin Furniture & Mattress has expanded its Mokena Distribution Center as part of its response to consumer demand for in-stock items and the growing need for additional storage. With the added capacity there's also been a need for more employees to run the facility, located just nine miles from the Orland Park showroom. 

The recent expansion at the Darvin Distribution Center, 19111 Darvin Drive in Mokena, has increased storage capacity by more than 30% at the facility, which will help Darvin store an enormous amount of furniture and mattresses available for its customers.

In an effort to help with the severe region-wide and local blood shortages in the Chicagoland area, Darvin Furniture & Mattress will hold a Blood Drive 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., Sunday, February 6, at its Orland Park, Ill., store, 15400 La Grange Road. Anyone showing up to donate blood will be entered into a raffle to win prizes including Apple Watch-Series 3, Apple AirPod Pro, Beats Studio Earbuds, and $100 Home Depot Gift Cards.

"We have all been impacted in one way or another by the pandemic, but when we heard about the critical blood shortages in the Chicagoland area, we wanted to try to do something more to help out," says Darvin Furniture & Mattress President Will Harris.

"There is nothing we enjoy more at Darvin Furniture than having a chance to give back to our customers and our community," says Darvin President Will Harris. "We really want to get the new year off to a great start by giving away more than $150,000 in furniture prizes to our customers and anyone who visits our store to enter."

for South Suburbia

It was meant to bring people together to have a little fun, to celebrate with some great music, and to enjoy some of the best deals of the year, explains Darvin President Will Harris of the recent Darvin Furniture & Mattress Best Brands Big Bowling Event held August 7-9. Many of the families who came in to bowl left with gift cards, concert tickets and more.

Some mornings, Steve and Marty Darvin will slip in early to their offices, at the back of Darvin Furniture & Mattress’s 200,000 square foot retail center, not because anything’s particularly pressing but because, well, wouldn’t you? For the two brothers, now in their 70s, just walking through the massive space, still sparkling and quiet before the crowds of shoppers arrive, perhaps plumping a pillow here or straightening a lampshade there, is a thrill and a gratification after a lifetime building the family business.

On Thursday, Oct. 29, a small group of library staff, Darvin Furniture employees, and enthusiastic supporters gathered on the first floor at the newly renovated Orland Park Library, 14921 Ravinia Ave. They stood outside the library’s very first sensory room and celebrated a grand opening ribbon cutting for the distinctly specialized Sensory Space.

The Sensory Space, dedicated to assisting library patrons who may have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), was made possible by a donation from Orland Park-based Darvin Furniture & Mattress.

Darvin Furniture & Mattress announced that as it continues its Century Celebration in 2020, dozens of names will be drawn to receive more than $135,000 in furniture prizes.

“The annual Furniture Giveaway is always a fun time for us at Darvin because we get to give back to our customers,” says Darvin President Will Harris. “With our ongoing 100th Anniversary celebration, this year has been a great opportunity for us to recognize our customers and reward them for their decades of loyalty.”

The century mark is an impressive achievement, whether you are a person, an entity like a community or a business - especially a furniture business - especially in these times.

Hinsdale Magazine met with Will Harris, president of Darvin Furniture since January. Harris joined Darvin, because he saw parallels with his experience in his family business in New Hampshire. He directs all day-to-day operations in sales and marketing and the distribution center in Mokena, and he works closely with Steve and Marty Darvin, who are still very active in the business daily.

A large group of spectators gathered outside Darvin Furniture & Mattress, Chicagoland’s largest furniture and mattress store, in Orland Park, Ill., and anxiously awaited a winner to be declared. Among the crowd were 17 Darvin 100th Anniversary finalists who were equally excited to see if the individual code they had randomly chosen would be the lucky winner to open the doors to the red 2020 Ford Explorer.

When Louis Darvin started his business selling furniture door-to-door from catalog pictures in 1920, the carnage of World War 1 and the tragedy of a world-wide pandemic were recent and painful memories. The 18th Amendment had been ratified in 1919 banning the production, importation, transportation and sale of alcoholic beverages and the economy was in recession. Times were tough.

Through hard work and perseverance Louis became known as a furniture expert, offering high-quality furniture at low prices. His customer base grew through the boom times of the 1920s and he persevered during the Great Depression.

“It’s going pretty well,” Harris told the HFA. While sales have fallen since the store closed, “We have to take victories where we can.” Part of the victory, Harris added, is that customers know that Darvin is still there to meet their needs. When the crisis passes, it will matter what customers think of how any business responded.

“The key element is that we remained active, and the actions we took were ethical,” Harris said. “We didn’t disappear. We remained active in some way and benefited the community in some way.”

Top 100 furniture retailer Darvin Furniture has opened a 4,000-square-foot Southern Motion Gallery, the company’s first.    

Southern Motion was founded in 1996 in Pontotoc, Miss., by Guy Lipscomb and Larry Todd.    

Darvin Furniture, a family-owned business, was founded by Louis Darvin in 1920. Grandsons Steve and Marty Darvin now own and operate the 130,000-squarefoot showroom located on 11 acres.
