Case Goods Buyer or Assistant Case Goods Buyer

This is a position for a Case Goods buyer with some experience that wants to work with a fast growing and very popular Midwest Furniture Store! We’re wondering if perhaps your knowledge and experience is just what we need to lead and improve upon our purchasing initiatives during our ongoing growth!

The Case Goods Buyer’s job will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Attending the furniture markets to participate in selecting wood furniture

    groupings

  • Creating purchase orders, confirm negotiated pricing, calculate freight, compare

    to price and selling price of each item. Work with management to confirm

    margins. Calculate cubes on container goods to fill containers. Work with the

    management team to confirm quantities on domestic goods.

  • Ensuring the case goods are selected and ordered on time to ensure inventory is

    available for sales events. Work with vendors to ensure new product lines are

    arriving on time and orders are complete, so they can be on display in the show

    room for advertised sales.

  • Reviewing reports for all case goods inventory lines. Create transfers for the

    selected products. Work with the visual display department to ensure case goods

    is placed on the showroom floor on time to maximize sales.

  • Confirming the selected items on display are accurately priced and tagged.

    Monitor the sales activity and reorder when needed. Select case goods from

    existing inventory, to include in the sales events as well. Keep sales

    management informed of inventory levels.

  • Teaming up with other members of the merchandising management team to

    select accents and accessories, as well as upholstery, outlet, and more

  • Re-order buying to maintain stock levels to ensure increased sales. Ensure the

    accuracy of the calculation of the orders, that containers are filled, and confirm

    shipping dates of orders.

  • Ensuring that billing is accurate and resolving any discrepancies.

  • Proofreading advertisements for accuracy.

  • Monitoring discontinued items. Determine markdowns of floor items and ensure

    appropriate staff members are kept informed.

  • Participating in selecting items to include on the website for featured sales and

    clearance items.

This is a hands-on position, participating in every aspect of the purchasing

process of upholstery.

Applicant qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in purchasing furniture, case goods preferred.

  • 3+ years of Reorder buying experience preferred

  • A happy, professional disposition

  • Excellent math aptitude and analytical skills.

  • Ability to travel to attend markets up to six times a year.

  • Solid experience in entering and understanding Purchase Orders.

  • Competency in using Excel Spreadsheets.

  • Knowledge of Storis preferred.
